After a lengthy application process, the Missouri State Board of Nursing recently granted College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, MO, preliminary approval to offer students a Bachelor of Science nursing program.

The college began working on the program in 2005, and its new Armstrong McDonald School of Nursing will enroll its first class of about 30 students in Fall 2007. Final approval will be granted after the first class graduates in 2010 and passes the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN?).

The new nursing students will be able to use a state-of-the-art clinical laboratory housed in the school's McDonald Hospital. Their clinical work experience will be undertaken at any of 11 different local health facilities.
