The power of the poll
Stressed Out Nurses Weekly, March 19, 2007
Whether it's for the President of the United States or the next winner of American Idol, voting is a passion for many of us. We participate in polls and surveys of different shapes and sizes all the time. Here at stressedoutnurses.com, it's no different. Over the past couple of months, we've asked you about some of the topics that shape your lives as practicing and future nurses. Your answers have been very interesting.
Our questions have touched on various topics-from what stresses you out to the reason you became a nurse to how many hours of sleep you get each night. Here's a breakdown of the polling:
- Money was viewed as the most important factor when you guys think about your first job. At 38%, it edged out flexible hours (33%) and left close to home (18%), and a strong orientation/preceptor program (12%) in the dust. Ka-ching!
- Eating chocolate stole the show when we asked about what you would do after a stressful day, locking up 33% of the vote. Quite a few of you run for your beds (22% chose sleeping), while some (17%) fill up the bathtub. Only a small number of you (6%) find a day spa that's open at night. Seriously, though, isn't chocolate wonderful?
- In one of our more serious questions, about stressful topics, communication and pharmacology both took the top prize, each claiming 34% of the vote. Dealing with difficult patients (17%) and EKGs (14%) are certainly on your radars, but aren't a tremendous source of worry.
