Weekly Q&A: Providing examples of outcomes resulting from community collaborations

HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, March 13, 2007

This week, a reader seeks advice about providing examples of outcomes resulting from community collaborations and partnerships. Read the response below from our advisor Barbara (BJ) Hannon, RN, MSN, ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® coordinator at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Q: How can I provide examples of outcomes resulting from community collaborations and partnerships?

A: When discussing community partnerships or collaborations, it is important to also address the outcomes of these relationships. Include the intended purpose of establishing the partnership, as well as the actual outcomes achieved.

Describe the intended goals of the programs, and then provide examples of the outcomes. For example, if discussing a mentoring and support group for teen mothers, discuss any results of this program, including

  • evaluations of the program by the participants
  • feedback from other community programs on the impact of the mentoring program on improving the parenting skills of the participants
  • increased enrollment of the children of these teenage mothers into early educational programs
