Education through shared governance councils
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, March 6, 2007
Nurses report that teaching opportunities are professionally rewarding and that they are loyal to organizations that provide the educational opportunities that give them confidence in their teaching and patient-care abilities.
Shared governance councils can provide nurses at all levels of the organization with valuable education so that they are confident when educating diverse populations within the healthcare setting. Such councils frequently develop diversity educational programs in which nursing and other clinicians can participate on a quarterly or semi-annual basis to meet the needs of clinicians when caring for and educating diverse patient populations.
