The National League for Nursing, a not-for-profit nursing education advocacy group, is undertaking a three-year study to determine the best methods for training and assessing student nurses.
Led by Helen Streubert Speziale, PhD, RN, from College Misericordia in Dallas Township, PA, a newly-formed task force will examine recent changes in nursing education and care delivery, including technological advances and the increasing empowerment of nurses to make care decisions.
The task force, which includes 10 nurse educators from universities nationwide, will also evaluate U.S. nursing programs to identify opportunities for improvement, such as updating evaluation tools to incorporate computer-based simulations that interactively test clinical skills. At the study's conclusion, the task force will issue recommendations to help nurse faculty modernize nursing education.
