Lawrence & Memorial Hospital (L&M) in New London, CT, is hoping to make bad backs a thing of the past.
Recently, the hospital introduced 20 new devices-at a cost of $200,000-to make lifting patients easier for staff. The goal is to make L&M a no-lift hospital, meaning no manual effort will be needed in the process. Inflatable mats, bed-and-chair slings, sit-to-stand machines, and special slippery sheets are just some of the advancements made at the hospital.
The hope is that back injuries-and subsequent sick time-will be reduced with the changes.
