Ideas to meet Force of Magnetism 10
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, January 23, 2007
Schools of nursing and health professionals programs are the renewable sources of healthcare professionals you count on from year to year. Therefore, it's in the best interest of any healthcare organization to develop partnerships with these schools and programs to assist in student recruitment, student retention, faculty recruitment, faculty retention, clinical and classroom space, and even funding. Doing so will also help to meet Force 10: Community and the healthcare organization.
Most healthcare organizations encourage staff to provide community service, and often staff choose to be involved in health prevention, fundraisers, and other health-related activities. Educational systems play a major role in exposing youth to career choices, so encourage some of your staff to participate in the following roles:
- President or member of the Parent Teachers Association in an elementary or middle school
- Member of the local board of education for the public school system
- Member of a school of nursing or allied health program advisory committee
- Health Occupations Students of America advisor or healthcare career advisor in a local high school
