First designated facility emerges in Kansas
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, January 2, 2007
The University of Kansas (KU) Hospital in Kansas City became the first facility in the state to achieve ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® status in late December. The hospital's journey to designation began in 2002.
During October 2006, KU Hospital staff welcomed ANCC appraisers to their facility for a site visit, and the official announcement that the facility had earned designation was made during a meeting of hospital staff in December. The University HealthSystem Consortium, an alliance of medical centers and affiliated hospitals, recently ranked KU Hospital 11th-up from 33rd-in safety and quality in a national study of medical centers.
