The goal is simple: to create better communication between healthcare providers and non-English speaking patients.

The plan is for 10 hospitals, selected out of 70 applicants, to receive a grant of up to $60,000 to help with training measures and technical assistance. After 16 months, the program will evaluate the hospitals and compile best practices that will be spread throughout the country. The hope is that communication will improve, while disparities in care will decrease.

The program, Speaking Together: National Language Services Network, is being funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
