Binding the documents with changes in mind
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, November 28, 2006
When exploring the different printing and binding options available for the documents, many organizations look for an option that will allow for insertion of extra pages or making last-minute changes prior to submission. At the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon, GA, Meryl Montgomery, RN, MSN, director, learning center, ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® coordinator, found a successful method to allow for such flexibility.
The staff used the organization's internal copy center, color printers, and two different binding methods for the document. The copy center outsourced the printing to IKON Office Solutions. "We utilized our library's bindery to bind one version in several volumes for permanent use. Since we were adding pages [up] to the very end prior to mailing the document, we did the permanent binding later, which took several weeks to get back," Montgomery says.
For the sets of the documents that were sent to the ANCC, the reviewers, and the public copy, Montgomery used an expandable and sturdy binder, called VariCap6T, made by Charles Leonard, Inc. "The VariCap6T worked great for us and also looked neat and professional, but allowed us to change sequence and add pages as needed," Montgomery says.
