California facility plans to celebrate
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, November 14, 2006
Sharp Grossmont Hospital (SGH) of La Mesa, CA, recently earned ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® designation. Officials at SGH began evaluating and planning to pursue designation in 1999. The application was submitted in January 2004, and the documents were submitted in November 2005. SGH's nurses-nearly 1,300-welcomed three appraisers to the 481-bed facility for a three-day site visit in March.
Maryann Cone, RN, MS, CNAA,BC, CNO and vice president of patient care services, says SGH embodies the Forces of Magnetism. "The organization has a long history of exemplary care in the community and a reputation of progressive practice," she says. "The nurses strive for the pursuit of excellence and continuously raise the bar."
Several events are being planned to celebrate the seven-year journey. Plans include a pancake breakfast, managers delivering pizza to the units during the night shift, and managers presenting framed designation certificates to staff. A pinning ceremony will be held next month.
