First, the cardiology department got a lift. Now, things are getting lighter for every department at Edward Hospital in Naperville, IL.
Thanks to the $1 million Get a Lift program, which began in the cardiology department a year ago, there are electronic patient lifts in every unit and all outpatient areas. So far, 1,600 employees have been trained in lifting equipment and policies.
Both staff and patients are responding well to the new equipment, according to the Chicago Tribune. Statistics show that about 9% of all employees miss work each year due to back injuries. Nurses alone lose about 750,000 days of work.
