View nursing from a different perspective
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, September 5, 2006
To understand how interdisciplinary teams at the hospital perceive nursing-part of evidence collection for Force 12-Integris Baptist Medical Center, in Oklahoma City decided to interview a variety of teams. The hospital linked this feedback with examples of projects that had been worked on by the teams and by nursing, says Cheryl Smith, RN, MS, clinical director transplant intensive care unit and ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® coordinator.
For example, the pharmacist who chairs the medication reconciliation team was interviewed for his perception of nursing. His photograph and a quote were then placed in the evidence alongside a paragraph summarizing the medication reconciliation's perception of nursing. Smith says Integris collected stories from a number of different teams and committees to include in the evidence. "We did include stories of things that went well, and things that had not gone so well and how the team came together to address and correct the issue," Smith says.
