NDNQI® program welcomes 1,000th hospital

HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, August 29, 2006

The 1,000th hospital has joined the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI®) program, one of several research-based tools available to nurse executives to collect nurse-sensitive quality indicators affecting outcomes for patients. While the ANCC's Magnet Recognition Program® requires that indicators must be benchmarked at the broadest level possible (e.g., national, regional), it does not require that organizations use the NDNQI quality indicators. The NDNQI does offer a fee discount for hospitals that have applied for designation. The NDNQI's primary goals are to provide comparative information to healthcare facilities for use in quality improvement activities and to develop national data on the relationship between nurse staffing and patient outcomes.
