With the hope of better working conditions and higher pay, almost 50,000 nurses from the Philippines have made the journey to the United States over the past 10 years, according to the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines. The Filipino government, firmly focused on the health of its country, wants to change the trend.

In early August, the government pledged to spend an average of $871 million per year over the next four years to raise the salaries of doctors, nurses, and teachers in the Philippines. The hope is to make healthcare jobs more appetizing on the island in Southeast Asia.

Meanwhile, companies in the United States and Canada have started to make the process easier for migrating nurses, providing services to ease the transition.
