Make the coordinator known to all
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, August 15, 2006
When an organization begins the journey to achieve ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® (MRP) designation, it is crucial that everyone knows who the MRP coordinator is and understands the concept, said Barbara J. Hannon, RN, MSN, MRP coordinator at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
As the application progresses, the various departments of the institution will need to be connected to the coordinator to provide documents and valuable information. The coordinator should be visible and approachable so he or she is able to obtain the documents needed throughout the journey.
One way to introduce the coordinator to other units is to give a presentation at their regularly scheduled meetings. Hannon said PowerPoint presentations are an effective way to explain designation and underscore how everyone in the organization is connected to, and positively affected by, the journey.
