Group session leaders set discussion points for site visit
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, July 25, 2006
In preparation for the group sessions during their redesignation site visit, Mary Shepherd, RN, MS, CNAA, ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® project director at The Methodist Hospital, a 1,356-bed facility in Houston, says she and others involved in the planning identified a leader for each group who could coordinate discussion points during sessions scheduled with appraisers.
Tommy Schwartz, PharmD, BCPS, pharmacy manager for accreditation and standards compliance, led the interdisciplinary collaboration group. He says that after reviewing what was presented in the narratives and the supporting evidence, the group realized they had done even more since their paper submission. The team identified about eight topics they felt most comfortable discussing.
During the site visit, the group discussed a new clinical information system currently in the implementation phase. Shepherd says meeting attendees also discussed other key structures and strategies implemented to ensure interdisciplinary collaboration occurs across the board. According to Schwartz, the group found it easy to talk about numerous programs and procedures related to interdisciplinary relationships because it's an everyday activity at The Methodist Hospital.
