Managers need to maintain control of determining where to focus their attention next. Don't let the behavior of others decide this for you. There are a lot of eager staff members who will dramatize scenarios in the hope of getting you to focus your attention on what they believe to be your most important priority. Remember that you are the manager, and your organization expects your priorities to be organized according to the best interests of the patients. A helpful priority-setting tool for managers will prompt them to write out
- The function or task
- The deadline date(s)
- Whom it affects
As you schedule your priorities, this type of tool will help you focus on where your time is best spent.
