Motivate staff with an organizationwide contest
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, June 27, 2006
Hosting an organizationwide contest related to ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® is a fun way to get staff excited and motivated about the journey. A photograph, poster, or essay contest of work that exemplifies the organization's mission or values allows a creative outlet for nurses and other staff members to learn and share the purpose of striving for and achieving designation.
Advertise the contest through an organizationwide e-mail and with posters in employee-only areas of the facility. Promote the contest at meetings and assign a due date for submission. Members of one of the committees could serve as a panel of judges and select the top 10 entries to be displayed in a public area of the organization-such as the main lobby-with blue ribbons attached to each entry. Recognize the top entries at a meeting and consider awarding prizes to the winners, such as coffee mugs with the organization's logo, or a gift certificate to a local shop.
