Four ways seasoned nurses support the Forces of Magnetism
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, March 14, 2006
At Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC, an ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® facility since January 2004, experienced nurses play a significant role in motivating newer nurses to be involved in their organization's journey, says Laura Fedge, RN, BSN, intensive care staff nurse at the hospital. "Because designation embodies a commitment to quality patient care and professional nursing practice, they not only supported the journey, but they also supported their colleagues through the process," she says. For example, these seasoned nurses exemplified the Forces of Magnetism
- through effective communication with physicians
- by actively participating in patient care planning
- by putting patient and family needs first
- by emphasizing research as the forefront of nursing
