Hold a champion retreat for redesignation
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, March 28, 2006
Children's Hospital of Wisconsin (CHW) received ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® designation in July 2004. During the initial journey, nursing leadership organized champions-a group of staff nurses from all areas of the organization-to create the culture and relate the Forces of Magnetism to nurses' practice and professional development. Since then, these champions have remained an active group. CHW recently held a half-day retreat themed "Growing our culture" that provided an opportunity to identify ways to continue to grow the role of the champion and evolve the culture as the organization prepares for redesignation in 2008. To maximize productivity at the retreat, leaders distributed a pre-retreat survey asking the champions to reflect on their roles and suggest improvements as they continue on their journey.
