KY-based organization earns designation
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, May 16, 2006
KY-based St. Elizabeth Medical Center recently became the first hospital in Greater Cincinnati to earn ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® designation. According to a hospital official, pursuing designation was part of an organizationwide strategic initiative developed in the mid-90s to recruit quality employees and maintain fiscal strength. St. Elizabeth Medical Center started laying the foundation for a designated environment in 1998, and in January two appraisers interviewed staff, physicians, patients, and community members over a three-day site visit. Since achieving the award in April, several nurse and medical resident applicants have cited the recent designation as a reason for applying, says a nursing official. The healthcare organization employs 1,250 at facilities in Covington, Edgewood, and Grant County.
