Have you heard? A change is in effect for CNO eligibility

HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, May 23, 2006

At the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® Conference held in Miami in March, staff addressed a change to the tenure required of CNOs at the time of the organization's written documentation submission. According to program staff, the CNO no longer has to serve in that position for at least one year prior to submitting the organization's written documentation, as had been the requirement under previous program eligibility expectations. The change is posted on the ANCC's Web site (www.nursecredentialing.org/magnet/process.html#elig). "Designation is led initially by the CNO, but if done well, it is a movement of the people that is independent of the CNO," says Linda Deering, MSN, RN, APN, executive vice president and chief operating/nursing officer at Sherman Health in Elgin, IL. Prior to her position at Sherman Health, Deering served as the vice president and CNO at Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva, IL, which earned designation in February 2004.
