NJ-based nurses share program concepts overseas

HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, June 6, 2006

Two nurses from ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®-designated Morristown (NJ) Memorial Hospital recently traveled to Taiwan to educate hospital stakeholders about the ANCC's concept of nursing. Although no designated hospitals exist in Taiwan, organizations can benefit from implementing strategies behind the program's philosophy, according to one of the nurses, a Taiwan native. During their 10-day visit, the nurses educated nursing staff, administration, faculty, and students at National Taiwan University Hospital in Taipei and the Cheng Kung University Hospital about the principles of the program, including the image of nursing, nursing leadership, autonomy, and professional development. The pair also met with the CEO of the National Taiwan University Hospital, making several recommendations to improve the nursing environment, including enhanced visibility of nurses and nurse leaders, and increased recognition of nursing accomplishments. Since the visit, hospital staff in Taiwan stated that they have met to discuss implementing some of the program's practices, according to the NJ news source, the dailyrecord.com.
