The U.S. is experiencing a critical shortage of nurses, and particularly hard hit are rural and semi-rural areas such as Olean, N.Y., say officials at Olean General Hospital.
In response to this continuing shortage, the hospital has signed a contract with international recruiting firms GlobeMed and TeamHealth to recruit 10 to 12 registered nurses from India over the course of the next year. Hospital officials say they expect the first nurses to arrive early next summer. The hospital will provide two to three months of temporary housing for the new nurses and their families as they start orientation and acclimate to the area.
