Two new workers have joined Kaiser Permanente Roseville (CA) Medical Center-Maxie and Sophie, two specially trained therapy dogs. The animals are part of the center's patient-care initiative Transforming Care at the Bedside.
The dogs walk the halls, visit patients, and provide affection to those who need it. During the current pilot phase of the program, Maxie and Sophie will visit patients in the telemetry and medical surgical units twice a month. Eventually, the program will be expanded to include more frequent visits to a larger number of patients, and may be incorporated into more Kaiser centers in the area.
