One day, you notice a list with patient names and addresses in a garbage pail.
How should you handle this?
The best response is to take the list out of the trash and bring it to your supervisor. He or she will want to report this to the facility's privacy or information security official so that the facility can try to find out why the personal health information (PHI) was disposed of improperly.
