Force 4 of the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Magnet Recognition Program stresses the importance of having personnel policies and programs in place to support staff. Here are some examples of such projects and programs:
- Student nurse extern program
- New graduate nurse internship
- Employee advisory committee
- Flexible scheduling options (e.g., online scheduling, summers-off program)
- Unit-based self-scheduling
- Differential for certification and educational advancement
- Use of tuition reimbursement dollars to cover the cost of certification
- Retention incentives for employees
- Flexible schedules for employees returning to school
- Administrative mentorship programs
