Once a nurse, always a nurse. That's the idea at Houston Healthcare in Georgia, where a re-licensing program allows former nurses to resurrect their careers after completing 40 hours of classroom work and 160 hours of preceptor or on-the-job training under the close mentorship of a licensed nurse.

The program, approved by the Georgia Board of Nursing, is one of a few in the state that re-orientates nurses who have left the profession and let their licenses expire. Candidates are given six months to complete the program.
