Force 8 of the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Magnet Recognition Program deals with consultation and resources. The force indicates that facilities should ensure that adequate consultation and human resources are available for all nurses to access and use. Knowledgeable experts, including advanced-practice nurses (APNs), should be available for nurses to consult. Force 8 also states that peer support should be given within and outside the nursing division.

The following list offers ways to illustrate that your facility provides consultation and resources:

  • APN/clinical nurse specialist (CNS) available for nursing consultation
  • Staff nurse member of hospital ethics committee
  • Ethics committee members available for consultation
  • Resources (i.e., journals, library, computer programs) available to support nursing research
  • Faculty members available for clinical or research consultation
  • Staff nurses and nursing faculty collaboration on research projects
  • Educational lunch-and-learns for staff nurses, provided by APNs
  • Members of nursing research council available for mentoring or consultation
  • Proposal(s) reviewed by nursing research council
