It's not always easy to think of new ideas that will engage and challenge your staff. Here are three unique ideas for your activity director:
1. Cook up a "culinary club." The club will allow staff to show off their chef-like talents by helping to prepare a feast that can be enjoyed by the whole facility. This will help staff from becoming bored with their everyday food selection and allow the facility to feel like home, or at least smell like it!
2. Have a beauty pageant. Crown one lucky staff member the fairest in the land-or the facility, at least. Those who choose to participate can enjoy a little friendly competition. You don't have to restrict entrants to female staff members-foster team spirit by encouraging all to enter.
Design your pageant after the Miss America beauty pageant. The contestants could dress up; female entrants could have their nails, hair, and makeup done by volunteers, family, or staff members; showcase a particular talent; and answer a question posed by the judges. Have a crown, sash, and bouquet of roses on hand for the lucky winner. Don't forget to have sashes and flowers prepared for the two runners up, too. The pageant winners should have their pictures displayed on an honorary wall of the facility.
