March Madness: Preparing for the site visit
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, February 7, 2006
As the team at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, NY, prepared for the appraisers' site visit last March, they decided to organize activities to engage staff around college basketball's end-of-season tournament, March Madness, says Barbara Bonificio, RN, MS, professional practice specialist at the institution. Before organizing any events, the team established a "practice" schedule (i.e., timeline) to coordinate the activities for the next 28 days. They developed basketball-themed materials, organized a pep rally, and coordinated unit-based activities as they approached their countdown to the visit. St. Peter's Hospital was awarded ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® designation in May 2005.
