Network with your neighbors
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, February 7, 2006
Networking with local ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® project leaders has proven to be a valuable source of support for both seasoned directors as well as those new to the process. For example, nurse leaders from several healthcare facilities in Massachusetts have formed a consortium called the Massachusetts Network Group to share best practices, experiences, and other forms of support. The group, currently representing 15 healthcare organizations, connects by e-mail and meets in person four to six times a year. All participants are in different phases of the journey. According to Michelle Barrella, RN, BSN, coordinator of nursing professional advancement at Boston Medical Center, "This group provides invaluable resources and collegiality in the spirit of supporting one another's success as each member moves along their respective journeys." She adds that "all members share information and are highly responsive to one another's inquiries regarding all aspects of the program's process. Sharing knowledge is the true asset of this group."
At this time, membership is limited to Massachusetts, but the group welcomes guests and honorary members from neighboring states. The group is happy to mentor other states and encourages others to form their own such consortiums. To learn more information, contact Michelle Barrella at Michelle.Barrella@bmc.org or 617/414-7554.
