Interactive inservice idea

HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, January 31, 2006

Interactive inservices are a great way to communicate an ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® message. This idea works quite well with specific training on the Forces of Magnetism. For instance, at Fox Chase Cancer Center (FCCC) in Philadelphia, nursing leaders displayed each of the Forces on a tabletop display using tent cards that highlighted the Force and examples/pictures of how FCCC exemplifies each Force.

One nursing leader or champion was placed at each Force station (table) to describe the Force, explain FCCC's special projects/examples of evidence, and ask sample site-visit questions. The event gave staff an opportunity to see the Forces in action and to discuss other examples of how the institution met the intent of the Forces. Staff received a sign-off sheet for each station they visited, and after stopping at all 14 tables, they were eligible for prize drawings. Sessions were offered multiple times over several days to maximize attendance. Staff from nonnursing departments also attended. Pizza and soda were served at all of the sessions.
