Weekly Q&A: The link between EBP, research, and designation
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, December 13, 2005
This week, a reader asks how evidence-based practice (EBP) and nursing research relate to ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® status. Read the response below from our advisor, Cole Edmonson, MS, RN, CHE, CNAA,BC, associate administrator, patient care services, Medical City Dallas (TX) Hospital and Medical City Children's.
Q: What is the link between EBP, nursing research, and the Magnet Recognition Program®?
A: The link between EBP, research, and the Magnet Recognition Program® is the ability to demonstrate superior patient outcomes that can be achieved only through research-based care. The literature is full of examples of outcome enhancement through evidence-based care and the need for care providers to adopt such practices.
Designated organizations must be able to demonstrate continuous improvement in nursing-sensitive indicators and morbidity and mortality rates. Performance improvement, and more specifically, EBP and research, are evidence of this ongoing development.
