HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, November 29, 2005

Mission Hospitals in Asheville, NC, recently began its journey to earn ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® status. According to a nursing official, Mission has many of the characteristics in place that reflect a designated environment, such as low nursing turnover rates and an empowered nursing staff. The steering committee that will oversee the effort includes executive leaders, medical staff representatives, nonclinical leaders, and staff nurses. Additionally, one member will coordinate the initial application, a second member will lead the document preparation, and a third member will oversee organization-wide communication and site-visit preparation. The steering committee will also lead more than 150 team members, the majority of whom are bedside nurses, through the process.
