The site-visit phase: Eight focus areas for staff
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, November 22, 2005
When Edward Hospital and Health Services in Naperville, IL, underwent its ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® site visit in May, Patti Ludwig-Beymer, PhD, RN, CTN, administrative director of education and research at the hospital, says that the appraisers discussed many topics with staff RNs. Here are some examples:
- Availability of resources
- Shared leadership model
- Approachability and accessibility of their CNO
- Physician relations
- Care delivery
- Autonomy over nursing practice
- Evidence-based practice
- Research and quality initiatives
Although the appraisers wanted to spend most of their time with nurses, they also talked with ancillary staff and physicians when making rounds, she adds.
