MetroHealth System is nation's second designated public hospital

HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, November 22, 2005

Cleveland-based MetroHealth System recently became the nation's second public hospital to achieve ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® status. MetroHealth began the process two years ago, underwent a four-day site visit in September, and announced the news of its recognition last week. According to a hospital official, both nurses and patients provided interviews and personal testimonies to appraisers during the site visit. Before the scheduled visit, many nurses were also responsible for educating their units and ancillary staff about topics that appraisers may evaluate during the visit. MetroHealth employs approximately 1,300 ambulatory and inpatient nurses and is one of 10 hospitals in Ohio to earn designation.
