Survey-prep booklet for nurses
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, November 15, 2005
When training staff for the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® appraiser site visit, many organizations experience positive results by using a concise booklet that contains all of the key points employees need to know for the survey. Consider distributing booklets to the medical staff, house staff, and volunteers. Although not everything will apply to every group, there will be something for everyone. Alternatively, you can produce tailored booklets for different audiences. For example, at Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga Springs, NY, the coordinating council developed a staff education booklet to prepare all nurses for the site visit, says Brenda Pettit, RN, BS, Magnet Recognition Program director at the hospital. This booklet was designed to include tips on
- the advantages of designation
- the ANA's Code of Ethics for Nurses
- their hospital's nursing philosophy
- their professional practice model
- council structures
- evidence-based practice
- theoretical frameworks
- how the hospital exemplifies the Forces of Magnetism
