Three cheers for "Nursing Excellence Moment' cards
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, November 8, 2005
Milwaukee-based Children's Hospital of Wisconsin will be up for redesignation in July 2008. To prepare for this stage, ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® (MRP) leaders brainstormed a way to start collecting staff input about the people, places, and things that continue to make their facility designated-worthy. They decided to encourage staff to write down a "Nursing Excellence Moment"-an event or interaction that supports one of the Forces of Magnetism-on cards located in each staff lounge, says Elisa Shipman, RN, BSN, MRP /special projects coordinator for patient care services at the hospital. There's a sign posted by the cards listing examples of these events or interactions to help staff understand the concept (e.g., a contribution to positive patient outcomes or promoting a positive work environment). MRP champions collect the cards to help document-writers showcase new examples of compliance with the Forces, says Shipman.
