Internal and external support for staff nurses
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, November 8, 2005
Within Force 8: Consultation and resources, the ANCC wants to see both internal and external resources available to support nurses, says Katherine Riley, MSN, RN, CNA,BC, assistant vice president, operations, Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington. She suggests that facilities consider the following examples:
- Internal-APNs or other specialty-specific experts provide education and clinical support for staff
- External-a PhD-RN travels to the facility to develop staff's clinical practice, research, and evidence-based practice skills
