Plan ahead: Develop a budget

HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, November 1, 2005

ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® project coordinators have many responsibilities-from organizing teams, to scheduling activities, to writing narratives for the documentation-so they wind up wearing many hats during the process, says Barbara Wadsworth, RN, MSN, MBA, CNAA,BC, administrative nurse director at Abington (PA) Memorial Hospital. She says that when an organization begins their initial planning for the journey, it's important for coordinators to consider the following task:

  • Develop a budget and get it approved. Identify fiscal needs and communicate them to administration. Several fees to include in the budget are the initial application, document review, appraisers, document assembly, compensation for meeting time, and food and celebrations.
