Four UT hospitals earn coveted award for nursing excellence

HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, November 1, 2005

Four Utah hospitals in the Intermountain Health Care (IHC) system earned ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® designation in October: LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Cottonwood Hospital and The Orthopedic Specialty Hospital in Murray, and Alta View Hospital in Sandy. The hospitals' Life Flight air transport program and IHC's two dialysis centers in Salt Lake City also earned the status. One program that appraisers recognized was the partnership between the hospitals and Salt Lake Community College-the first such partnership in the Salt Lake City Valley-that fostered the advancement of research and professional-development opportunities for nurses. The hospitals began their journey in 2002 and, after receiving a score in the excellence range for their written documentation, they earned a four-day site visit in August. Appraisers surveyed each nursing unit at all of the hospitals, as well as the offsite air transport system and dialysis centers. Collectively, the four organizations employ more than 2,100 nurses.
