Iowa boasts its fourth designated hospital
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, October 25, 2005
Genesis Medical Center (GMC) in Davenport, IA, achieved ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® status, becoming the first hospital in the Quad Cities-a region along the banks of the Mississippi River-to earn the designation. GMC Davenport officials attribute much of the organization's success to the effective collaboration between departments in the delivery of care. The process to achieve designation took more than three years, and the written documentation that GMC Davenport submitted in December 2004 was eight volumes in length. After Genesis received a score in the "excellent" range for their documentation, they underwent a site visit from appraisers in June. GMC Davenport employs more than 1,000 nurses.
