Though months have passed since Hurricane Katrina, the devastation of the health care system in New Orleans remains. Hospitals and health systems are experiencing extreme staffing shortages because of the loss of many healthcare professionals. As more residents return to the New Orleans area, health facilities are being taxed to the maximum in demand for services.

Various hospitals throughout the affected areas are struggling to find skilled workers and to bring back those personnel who have left the region. Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans is one such hospital in desperate need of staff. The hospital currently has 90 registered nurse openings, with particular shortages in medical/surgical nursing, telemetry, and adult critical care.
