In an effort to ensure staff competency in pain management, the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) now offers the first nurse-focused pain management certification available in the United States.
The first group of ANCC Pain Management Nurses was certified this October, becoming experts in pain assessment, treatment, side effects, and patient and family education. The certified nurses may also help facilities meet the institutional needs to comply with the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization's (JCAHO) standards regarding patient rights and provision of care to patients who require pain management.
