Writing your documents: Listen to your nurses
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, October 11, 2005
ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® (MRP) facilities and applicants use a variety of methods to gather evidence and write their documents, including individual writers and forming writing teams. If you are contemplating different strategies to use at your facility, consider this tip from BJ Hannon, RN, MSN, MRP coordinator at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. "Sit down and start looking at what is best in your facility," she says. "Involve staff RNs at the unit level-ask them over and over, 'What is great about your unit?' 'What are you most proud of?'" Hannon advises structuring documents around this staff-nurse feedback. "There's no right or wrong way to write the documents. Write what your gut tells you."
