Writing the application: Many ways to achieve one voice

HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, September 27, 2005

ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® applicants might choose many different ways to approach the written application, such as using one writer, multiple writers, writing teams, or hiring outside an writer, but the final product should be in one voice, says Barbara Wadsworth, RN, MSN, MBA, CNAA,BC, administrative nurse director at Abington (PA) Memorial Hospital. At Abington, assigning a writing team to each Force worked well, but Wadsworth stresses the importance of using the method that works best for an individual facility. She advises organizations that choose to hire an outside writer to surround him or her with staff that are knowledgeable about the organization. "I think the key to successfully writing the documents is a writer who knows your organization."
