Binding method for last-minute changes

HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, August 16, 2005

If you need a binding method that allows for last-minute changes to your documents, consider the format used at Centra Health, Inc. in Lynchburg, Virginia, which achieved ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® status this July. After talking to several local printers, they used a screw binding that accommodated three-inch thickness and allowed them to take apart the books after printing. This binding was three-hole punched with a screw post inserted in the holes. It was not considered loose-leaf because it was bound with a cover and the pages could not be pulled out without unscrewing the posts, says Faith Coles, RHIT, executive assistant, administration. They took one mock set of books to the printer and supplied tabs and dividers for the printer to insert. Centra Health needed to add information such as booklets and pamphlets after the books were bound, so they slipped them in three-hole punched plastic protectors and placed them in the appropriate sections when they received the books back from the printer.
