ANA conducts nationwide RN satisfaction survey
HCPro's Weekly Update on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®*, May 10, 2005
Results of a recent national RN satisfaction survey reveal that RNs are "highly satisfied" in areas such as interactions with fellow RNs, their professional status, and opportunities for professional development, despite working extra hours because of the nursing shortage (82%). The RN Satisfaction Report, conducted through the ANA's National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators, also shows moderate levels of satisfaction when it comes to nursing management, nursing administration, nurse-physician relations, and autonomy. The survey results came from 76,000 RNs from 5,188 nursing units in 206 hospitals across 44 states. Forty-three percent of the hospitals surveyed have achieved ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® designation. Hospitals ranged in size from less than 100 beds to greater than 500 beds and included nonteaching, teaching, and academic medical centers.
